Is this what you call Recruiting?

I usually get emails like this a couple of times per week while I’m not even looking for a new job. I can only imagine what people who are actively seeking new employment must have to go through to weed out garbage like this in their inbox.I’ve removed the name, phone number and email address of the recruiter for their privacy sake but am leaving the company name as is.

First and foremost – I understand the need for creating an email template to get important information out to people. However, since you’re trying to recruit people, at least use mail merge so that the subject’s name to whom you’re sending the email appears. Come on, how about personalizing the email a little

Then I noticed the job title – Project Manager I_Pricing Analyst. Couple of things to mention – This guy has no idea what I do for a living because if he cared to read, forget reading – just scanned my resume, which I know he does not have and I’ll get to that later, he would have known that I’m not a Pricing Analyst. At this point, I know there’s no need to even read the rest of his email. However, what kind of operation are these guys running where a so-called “Sr. Recruiter” sends out a blanket e-mail to people who are obviously not qualified to fill his job order?

The reason why I said that this person does not have my resume is because if he had it, it would (should) be obvious that I’m not a pricing analyst. Then the last line of the email says something like if you’re with AT&T, then don’t bother responding…what?? If I were recruiting on this position and saw someone that currently worked at the client site, I would be sure to call that candidate to find out first hand as to why they’re looking to leave, and probably develop a passive relationship with the person. What if you got a similar requirement from Sprint or Verizon (both are in the Dulles corridor) tomorrow…all of a sudden, you’d have a person working in the Telco industry that you’ve talked to before and you would be ahead of the competition.

To me – this guy is not a recruiter. He’s a sourcer. Recruiters that accept searches will call any and all qualified candidates, active or passive.

Overall, this recruiter gets an F. Good Luck to them and their potential employees. Sounds like a body shop to me.
