Negotiating with Candidates

Upon reading this article, it seems that Mr. Raghav Singh is assuming that most recruiters and headhunters only discuss compensation towards the end of the process i.e. when an offer is made by the client.

In my experience working as a Headhunter and training other recruiters – I would never even submit a candidate without closing them on what to expect if an offer is made. One of the most important aspect of recruiting is to set expectations for the candidate. No matter how perfect a candidate is, unless I have gone over their compensation history and closed them on the compensation package for the position, I will never submit them. And during the process, whenever I speak with them to either schedule interviews or just to touch base, I make sure to always ask about compensation again so that we’re on the same page.

The last thing I want to do is discuss an offer only to find out that the candidate’s expectation all along was a lot more than my client would ever pay. That’s just a waste of time and effort for all parties involved and my clients deserve better service than that.
