Video Resumes: A Bad Idea

According to this post, CareerBuilder tested an idea in a market that was not quite ready for it. To be honest, as a recruiter, even I’m not ready for it. I have managers who will set up interviews just because I’m vouching for a candidate’s skills without even reviewing a paper resume. I know people who have given us requirements along with times for interviews and said just send us an appointment for these times with the name of the candidate that’s coming in.

As a recruiter, that’s where I need to be. I don’t need to take a clip of someone’s home made video commercial of themselves to show to a hiring manager. Who has time for all this crap? This is only going to be jamming up bandwidth in corporate networks, crashing good old Microsoft computers and occupying large amounts of memory.

Just cause youtube has how-to’s posted does not make it a good idea. Please don’t waste your time, money and energy with video resumes.
