About Me

I’ve been in the Staffing and Recruiting industry for 9 years and counting. My first job as a Technical Recruiter after college was due to a referral from a friend who is also a Recruiter. I can still remember my first day on the job – a 45 minute training on a job board and a couple of job orders that I needed to fill. I had no idea what I was doing or what was expected of me for a few months. To get things done – I had to leverage the power of Google and started learning the ropes and was also being mentored by the Director of Recruiting, who was a great person to learn from.
I work with companies to fill their contract, contract-to-hire or direct placement needs. For candidates that I work with, I help them with initial presentation (resume), interview preparation and final walk through. I have worked as a Recruiting Manager where I was involved with hiring, training, mentoring Recruiters and getting them up to speed so they could meet their goals. I have also managed teams of recruiters and sales professionals in a consulting/agency environment. I’m still involved with training and mentoring recruiters and sales professionals within our industry.
I’ve come a long way from those days – like most people who are making a career out of recruiting and staffing, I like helping people find new positions with companies that they want to work with. It’s the feeling of making a difference in someone’s life that drives me to pick up the phone and get people to work.
Some of the organizations in the D.C. Metro area that I have represented are Discovery Communications, Geico Insurance, Circuit City, American Red Cross, Nextel Communications, General Dynamics, SAIC, EDS, Fujitsu, MCI World Com, Cable & Wireless, Booz Allen Hamilton, Keane, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac among many others. I continue to support some of these companies with their open positions.
Though I’ve been in situations where I was recruiting for positions remotely, I tend to only accept searches that are local to the Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia/Maryland areas because of the nature of this business. I like to meet the hiring manager, learn about their corporate environment and culture and see their location. Yes, you can get most of the details over the phone – but you can’t see the intangibles. Same way, I like to meet my candidates before they interview. I want to see if they arrive on time to our appointment, if they’re prepared for their ‘interview’ with me, their personality, presence etc. Most recruiters won’t waste their time with the process that I follow, but I find more often than not, that my screening process usually leads to success.
I am glad that you stopped by this site. I hope you bookmark the link and continue to come back and also share this with other D.C. area recruiters.
